Finding Affordable SEO for Your Small Business

Finding affordable SEO (search engine optimization) can be a hair raising experience for a small business, especially if you do not have experience with SEO. SEO is a huge, complex subject, and there are thousands upon thousands of SEO firms, all claiming to offer affordable SEO. However, taking a few basic considerations into account can make the process of finding affordable SEO much easier.

First, exactly what does your site need? Do you need link building services and help in running an ad campaign, or is a single optimization of your site all you need? If your web site's content needs refreshing, can you write the content in house, or should the SEO firm do the writing itself? Resist the temptation to economize by buying too few services. Buying services your site really does not need is wasteful, but not buying enough services can be just as wasteful, since the work the SEO firm does will not be enough to adequately promote your site.

Second, what clientele does the SEO firm most often work with? SEO firms that work primarily with larger companies and corporations are likely to charge more because their big customers can afford it. Find a company that specializes in mid sized and small companies or has a division that handles smaller clients.

Third, are the firm's prices too good to be true? Firms that offer low, low prices can be tempting, but can you afford the risk? Many cut rate firms are new and have lowered their prices to get initial clients to add to their portfolios. Some of them are excellent, and will do a good job for you for a very good price. And some, probably most, are either mediocre, or green, or both. Can you afford to pay the cheap company to do SEO, then pay a more expensive SEO firm to fix what the cheap company did? As a small business, taking on the risk would be penny wise and pound foolish. To find genuinely affordable SEO, look for companies whose prices are low, but not at the bottom of the market.

As you review sites of affordable SEO firms, do not be swayed by the advertising. Know exactly what your site needs and stick to it. Choose an SEO company that likes to work with customers like you and knows your needs, rather than a company that will take your money in between meetings with the corporate clients it prefers. And avoid any offer that is too good to be true. When you keep this in mind, the field of choices will narrow nicely, and you will find it much easier to find affordable SEO.
